A lorry that was painted by a street artist almost 20 years ago is expected to fetch almost £1.5 million in auction later this month. The 1988 Volvo FL6 would normally sell for around £1,000, but this truck is set to become one of the most expensive trucks in the world as that street artist was none other than Banksy!
The acclaimed graffiti artist gave the Volvo FL6 in 2000 a striking makeover to mark the millennium, after being contacted by the famed circus company, Turbozone International Circus. The circus was constantly on tour around Europe and South Africa and always raised eyebrows when the Banksy lorry hit town.
The 17-ton truck will go on sale at Bonhams in Goodwood, Surrey, on September 14 in a classic car auction. The Volvo will line up alongside vintage vehicles including a 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT and a 1935 Bugatti Type 57. However, the masterpiece from Banksy is set to steal the show.
Banksy is an anonymous street artist whose satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique. Originally from Bristol, Banksy has gone on to showcase his work around the globe.
The decorative truck is visually eye-catching and boasts Banksy’s unique style. However, you do not have to find £1.5 million in order to buy yourself a unique and distinctive truck.
